About The Position

The Civil Rights Attorney supports federal civil rights enforcement activities by reviewing, evaluating, and processing complaints in accordance with established regulatory frameworks. This role applies legal analysis to determine jurisdiction, sufficiency, and appropriate case disposition while ensuring compliance with applicable civil rights statutes and federal procedures. The performance of this position is key to RavenTek's performance on the contract, and therefore RavenTek's mission to support the customer.

Requirements

  • Strong legal analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of federal civil rights statutes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent legal writing and research capabilities.
  • Ability to manage high-volume caseloads with competing priorities.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 1+ years of relevant legal experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust level clearance.

  • Experience with civil rights law, administrative law, or regulatory processes preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review incoming complaints to determine eligibility for further processing.
  • Conduct jurisdictional analysis under applicable federal statutes, including Title VI, Title IX, Section 504, ADA, and the Age Discrimination Act.
  • Evaluate complaint sufficiency, including factual support and legal basis.
  • Assess timeliness of complaints and applicability of waivers.
  • Determine appropriate case disposition, including investigation, referral, or dismissal.
  • Draft legally sufficient correspondence, including acknowledgment letters, requests for information, and determination letters.
  • Assign and manage case files, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with federal standards.
  • Communicate with complainants to obtain additional information or clarification.
  • Support early resolution processes where applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with the Privacy Act, FOIA, FERPA, and applicable procedures.
  • Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
  • Submit Monthly Status Reports on a regular basis, as required.
  • Monitor RavenTek email on a regular basis, at least 3 times per week, and respond accordingly.
  • Complete required compliance training as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
