About The Position

High Point Engineering, Inc. (HPE) is seeking a full-time Project Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to join their growing land development team in Tampa, Florida. The Project Engineer will collaborate and work interdependently as a team member on a wide range of Community Development projects under the guidance of a Project Manager. This role provides direct exposure to firm leadership and a clear path toward Project Manager and Engineer of Record (EOR) responsibilities. A Civil Project Engineer will be involved in projects from concept through construction, including design, permitting, and construction-phase support for residential and commercial developments throughout the central and west Florida region. The ideal candidate has experience in site design, drainage, and utilities, is proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Stormwise, and is familiar with Florida permitting processes and agency coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or equivalent)
  • 3–5 years of experience in land development / site civil engineering in Florida
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with stormwater modeling software (e.g., StormWise or similar)
  • Working knowledge of Florida design standards, permitting processes, and municipal codes
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
  • Experience coordinating with agencies such as SWFWMD, FDOT, and local jurisdictions
  • Familiarity with Environmental Resource Permitting (ERP) and Florida stormwater criteria
  • Experience preparing or supporting permit submittals and agency responses
  • Exposure to construction administration and field coordination
  • Ability to work on multiple projects with increasing levels of responsibility

Responsibilities

  • Support and manage land development projects from initial due diligence through construction completion.
  • Assist project managers with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing, and schedule.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and regulatory agencies to advance project approvals.
  • Perform site feasibility analysis and participate in pre-application and agency meetings.
  • Prepare engineering design and construction documents, including site layout and grading, stormwater management systems, water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utilities, parking layout, access, and circulation, and pavement marking and signing plans.
  • Assist project managers with drainage calculations, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D for design and plan production.
  • Prepare and submit permitting packages to agencies such as Southwest Florida Water Management Districts, Florida Department of Transportation, and local municipalities and counties throughout the central and west Florida region.
  • Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, landscape architects, and surveyors.
  • Support construction-phase services, including responding to RFIs and contractor inquiries, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, reviewing test reports and inspections, preparing punch lists and closeout documentation, and assisting with record drawings and Certificate of Occupancy.
