About The Position

Ducks Unlimited, Inc. (DU), the world’s leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking a senior-level professional engineer and project manager to support DU in our wetland restoration efforts within the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic geography (Maine to Maryland). Primary responsibilities will be in Pennsylvania and New York with opportunities for work in surrounding states. The preferred location is in one of DU’s field offices in Syracuse, New York or Easton, Maryland. Working from a home office within the geographic area of primary responsibilities will be considered. The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland and riparian restoration and enhancement projects. Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an EAC/ABET accredited engineering program
  • Registered professional engineer with the ability to obtain registrations in assigned states
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil, water resources or related engineering design
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience
  • Demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships
  • Valid driver's license in good standing
  • Reliable transportation that can be used for meetings and project site visits and carry insurance that meets DU's minimum insurance requirements (if working remote/from a home office)

  • Experience with Civil3D, ArcGIS, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including grading, water control structure and pond design, erosion control, construction inspection, and project management
  • Background in ecological restoration (wetland and riparian)

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of proposal scope of work and budgets in close coordination with the Manager of Engineering Services and biological staff serving as project managers.
  • Interpretation, selection, adaptation, and application of engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services.
  • Completion of engineering designs, project plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, reports, and permit application documents as required for implementation of nature-based features, dam rehabilitation, and other wetland and riparian restoration practices within conservation and mitigation programs.
  • Managing multiple projects across the area of geographic responsibilities, including but not limited to, reviewing work prepared by others, determining priorities between projects, and maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Coordination with internal and external stakeholders and representation of engineering designs to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Conducting field work and inspections and performing construction management oversight as needed (occasional), which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions.
  • Reviewing contracts, ensuring contract compliance, and coordinating with consultants and contractors to meet project objectives.
  • Mentoring and/or supervising engineering staff (one or more technicians and/or engineers) and delegating tasks to direct reports, coordinating workload and resource allocation with the Manager of Engineering Services.
