About The Position

Kimley-Horn's Reston, Virginia (VA) office is seeking a Civil Engineer with 6+ years of experience to join their Surface Water team. This is not a remote position. The role involves supporting a growing water resources practice and working with multi-disciplinary teams for a variety of existing and new public and private clients. You will work in a dynamic team environment on a range of projects including surface water management studies, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, analysis and design, flood studies, bridge hydraulics, and green infrastructure planning and design. Responsibilities include preparing Hydraulic/Hydrology studies, drainage reports, design documents, and design plans and specifications for water resources projects. Technical writing will be a key component, including memorandums, feasibility studies, regulatory submittals (CLOMR/LOMR to FEMA), and master plans. You will also assist with developing scopes of work and associated budgets, watershed master planning, stormwater master planning, report or planning level documents, and CIP development. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with engineers and designers on diverse projects, build meaningful professional relationships, and work closely with industry professionals, various jurisdictions, and contractors.

Requirements

• 6+ years of experience
• 6-10 years of water resources engineering experience
• Experience in Stream Restoration Design, Outfall Channel Restoration Design, Pond Retrofit Design
• Proficiency using AutoCAD for Site Plan Set Development / ArcPro for Engineering Analysis
• HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Pond Pack, PCSWMM experience
• Drainage Design / Drainage Analysis capabilities
• Experience with MS4 support / Track record of support to MS4s across VA
• Strong understanding of plan submittal requirements for jurisdictions across Northern / Central VA
• Strong ability to train and mentor younger staff

Responsibilities

• Support our growing water resources practice and will require working with multi-disciplinary teams for a variety of existing and new public and private clients

• Prepare Hydraulic/Hydrology studies, drainage reports, design documents, and design plans and specifications for water resources projects
• Technical writing in the form of memorandums, feasibility studies, regulatory submittals (including CLOMR/LOMR submittals to FEMA), and master plans
• Assist with developing scopes of work and associated budgets
• Watershed master planning, stormwater master planning
• Report or planning level documents
• CIP development
• Build meaningful internal and external professional relationships
• Work closely and collaboratively with other industry leading professionals, various jurisdictions, and contractors
