About The Position

Hoffmann, Parker, Wilson & Carberry, P.C. (HPWC) is a specialized boutique firm with deep expertise in municipal law and civil litigation, representing Colorado’s cities, counties, and special districts. The firm handles consequential matters such as condemnation and eminent domain disputes, CORA litigation, municipal employment matters, intergovernmental agreement disputes, land use, and water law. HPWC is growing its civil litigation workload and seeking an Associate Attorney to manage cases from initial analysis through resolution (settlement, hearing, or trial). This is a full-cycle litigation role where attorneys work under experienced directors, drive their own work, and own matters end-to-end. The firm offers a collaborative, supportive culture focused on genuine public significance rather than private commercial disputes.

Requirements

  • 5 or more years of civil litigation experience with full lifecycle depth.
  • Active Colorado Bar license in good standing.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills (writing sample required).
  • Oral advocacy experience, including arguing in court and familiarity with Colorado case management under C.R.C.P. 16.
  • A balanced autonomous and collaborative work style, capable of managing own matters independently while contributing to the team.
  • Ability to handle full-cycle civil litigation independently: case strategy, discovery, depositions, motions practice, and courtroom appearances.

Nice To Haves

  • Client intake and case analysis, including assessing merits, developing strategy, and advising clients.
  • Conducting legal research and producing clear written analysis, especially for time-sensitive CORA matters.
  • Drafting and arguing motions (summary judgment, motions to dismiss, motions to strike), filing briefs, and presenting written arguments to the court.
  • Managing the full discovery cycle, including interrogatories, document requests, privilege review, CORA document production, and expert witness coordination.
  • Conducting and defending depositions under the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Appearing at pre-trial hearings, status conferences, and evidentiary proceedings, and participating in trial as first or second chair.
  • Assessing settlement windows, advising clients on risk-adjusted outcomes, and negotiating with opposing counsel.
  • Tracking and meeting all court-triggered deadlines across multiple active matters, including electronic calendaring for trigger-date management.

Benefits

  • $125,000 - $180,000 DOQ plus bonus eligibility and annual raises
