About The Position

Gridworks, a leading EPC contractor for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, is seeking an experienced Civil General Foreman to lead field operations. This role is crucial for managing civil work on solar and battery storage installations, including directing crews in earthwork, operating GPS-guided equipment, and ensuring equipment readiness. The position involves reviewing civil drawings, coordinating with engineering and project management, and maintaining a strong feedback loop to address field issues proactively. The ideal candidate is a proven leader passionate about clean energy and committed to safety, quality, and operational excellence in a dynamic, field-based environment.

Requirements

  • Previous field management or foreman experience (Required)
  • Thorough understanding of civil earthwork, grading, drainage, concrete, and access road construction as related to utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects
  • Ability to read, interpret, and redline civil and construction plans, including elevations, percentages, and grade stakes
  • Proficiency in MS Office (emphasis on Excel, Outlook, and web-based data platforms)
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to organize, motivate, and direct crew members quickly in response to changes in schedule or scope
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to implement site-specific modifications as conditions change
  • Strong working knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to identify, document, and correct hazardous conditions on site
  • Must have a clean driving record

Responsibilities

  • Direct civil crew members in daily earthwork operations including mass grading, cut/fill, subgrade prep, drainage feature installation, and access road construction
  • Operate GPS-guided dozer and motor grader to perform rough and finish grading to design grade; verify machine control surface files are current before each shift and coordinate with the survey team on grade checks
  • Review civil drawings, grading plans, and daily work packages in advance to identify design, material, or labor issues before they hit the field
  • Maintain visibility on truck stock, equipment readiness, and fuel; ensure vehicles are on routine maintenance schedules and conduct routine inspections of storage areas
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the civil crew and the Construction Manager, communicating daily progress, schedule impacts, and resource needs in real time
  • Conduct daily tailgate meetings to align the crew on priorities, safety, and work package objectives for the shift
  • Monitor daily production targets against project schedule and adjust crew deployment, equipment staging, or sequencing to maintain or recover schedule as conditions require
  • Prepare weekly after-action reports documenting field issues to provide a feedback loop to the engineering and project management team
  • Provides coaching, counseling, and discipline to employees; initiates, coordinates, and enforces systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Directly oversees crew leads and field crew members assigned to civil scopes on solar and BESS projects.
