About The Position

RS&H is seeking a Civil Field Engineering Inspection Intern to join its Transportation Construction Management team in the Asheville, North Carolina area for Summer 2027. The intern will collaborate with and receive mentorship from engineering associates while gaining hands-on experience in transportation construction management. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, motivated, honest, and dependable team player with strong communication skills.

RS&H’s Transportation-Construction Management Practice serves public agencies and private clients throughout the United States. Its Construction Engineering and Inspections and Construction Management teams provide construction engineering, program management, specialized testing, and inspection services from preconstruction through maintenance and operations.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related program at an ABET-accredited university.
• Ability to work independently with general supervision and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Good driving record and a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to sit, stand, climb, bend, twist, or stoop frequently and for prolonged periods under various outside conditions.
• Ability to reach horizontally and vertically for required tasks.
• Ability to use construction or inspection safety equipment, including fall protection.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and shake up to 20 pounds.

• Prior internship or related experience.

Responsibilities

• Support inspection teams with field inspections.
• Verify dimensions of prepared and completed work.
• Collect and prepare data for evaluation.
• Perform engineering work using computer-assisted engineering software and equipment.
• Prepare reports on site operations activities, including materials used and work completed.
• Provide support to engineering and project management associates.
