About The Position

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Civil/Environmental Project Engineer or Project Manager with 5-10 years of experience for their Reading, MA office. This role involves supporting a diverse portfolio of civil and environmental engineering projects, including environmental assessment, contaminated site remediation, solid and hazardous waste management, fuel storage tank compliance, hazardous building materials abatement and building demolition, landfill engineering, and transfer station facility design and construction. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic and a desire to be part of a growing team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental engineering or related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience.
  • Experience working in the environmental engineering field with a focus on projects located in MA.
  • Experience overseeing various field services (e.g., construction oversight, site assessments, underground storage tank removal, building and utility investigations) a requirement.
  • Familiarity with MassDEP / MCP regulations pertaining to site assessment, remediation, permitting, tank compliance, and solid waste facilities.
  • Ability to manage technical, budgetary and client aspects of diverse projects including project workload demands.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with multiple staff members and clients.
  • Positive attitude and able to communicate effectively with others.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • PE certification or ability to obtain considered a plus but not required.
  • Relevant landfill / transfer station permitting and design experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare engineering reports and plans including sampling and analysis plans, environmental assessment reports, Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP) reports and plans, MassDEP permit and compliance filings, solid waste studies, technical design memoranda, etc.
  • Prepare engineering design plans, details, and technical specifications for contract bidding purposes.
  • Supervise and lead project teams to perform environmental and engineering studies and designs using recognized industry standards and regulatory-compliant approaches.
  • Develop and define project scope, schedule, and fee; prepare contact agreements; determine work procedures, staffing, and sub-consultant assignments; track and manage project budget, invoicing, and contract amendment efforts.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Support pursuit of new work opportunities through established client relationships and competitive pursuits, including participation in proposal development and interviews / presentations.
  • Participate in professional organizations and technical committees.
