About The Position

Weston & Sampson is seeking a Civil or Environmental Engineer with 0-3 years of experience to join their team in Reading, MA. This role offers a hybrid work environment (office, field, and remote) and is ideal for an early-career engineer looking for mentorship and professional development. The engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on diverse projects including environmental assessment, remediation, brownfield redevelopment, and civil/environmental infrastructure across New England and the East Coast. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a related field
  • Interest in or exposure to field‑based engineering work (experience is welcome but not required)
  • Willingness to support active field assignments throughout New England and other regions
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a project team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally or regionally for field assignments

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or interest in pursuing one is a plus
  • Experience or interest in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or drafting is a plus (training available)

Responsibilities

  • Conducting Environmental Assessments consistent with ASTM standards and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) regulations, including the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP)
  • Providing field oversight during soil borings, monitoring well installation, and remedial activities, which may require extended field hours and work in varying weather conditions
  • Collecting air, soil, groundwater, and water samples for field screening and laboratory analysis
  • Managing and reviewing analytical data, including tabulation, evaluation, and QA/QC
  • Supporting solid and hazardous waste facility monitoring, permitting, and design
  • Preparing plans, maps, and boring logs
  • Assisting with the preparation of work plans and technical reports
  • Observing and documenting construction and remedial activities
  • Supporting building abatement, demolition oversight, and underground storage tank removals
  • Assisting with soil and groundwater remediation projects from design through construction
  • Preparing engineering design documents, including plans, details, specifications, and cost estimates
