Summer 2027 Civil Engineering Internship, Nebraska
About The Position
Kirkham Michael is seeking energetic and knowledgeable civil engineering students for entry-level, temporary, Summer Civil Engineering Intern positions for their Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska offices in Summer 2027. Interns will work under the direction of a senior team member, receiving specific instruction for required tasks and project components. Duties may include field construction observation, material testing, basic engineering calculations, and CAD design/drawing. Instruction in basic AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or Microstation GeoPak will be provided as interns apply engineering education to practical design solutions.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university and pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of civil engineering to projects.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- High level of creativity.
- Must be articulate with a professional presence, possessing solid decision-making, planning, and organizational skills.
- Valid Driver's License required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in transportation or construction engineering is a plus, but not required.
Responsibilities
- Observe construction activities and assist with materials testing.
- Perform basic survey services.
- Perform bridge inspections in the field and assist with generating inspection reports.
- Perform standard computations or analysis.
- Complete drawing (AutoCAD, Microstation) assignments to assist in the development of project plans.
- Assist on other tasks such as hydrology and hydraulics studies, report preparation, and preparation of permit applications.
