Civil Engineering Intern (Highway) - Summer 2027
About The Position
RS&H is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support the Transportation team in its Houston, Texas office during Summer 2027. The intern will be mentored by and collaborate with engineering associates, supporting a variety of conventional and design-build projects involving Texas roadway design. The role offers hands-on experience and exposure to the infrastructure engineering industry, with an emphasis on applying technical standards to develop cost-effective solutions and meet client expectations. RS&H is an employee-owned architecture, engineering, and consulting firm. Its transportation teams deliver planning, environmental, and engineering design solutions for transportation agencies and local governments, including work on managed toll lanes, corridor plans, runways, interchanges, and major roadways.
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Civil Engineering at an ABET-accredited university.
- Anticipated graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously.
- Strong work ethic aligned with the company’s mission and core values.
Nice To Haves
- GPA of 2.5 or above.
- Prior internship or related experience.
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Specific interest in transportation or roadway design.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine calculations requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles.
- Prepare and revise plan documents and details.
- Collect and prepare data for evaluation.
- Perform engineering tasks using computer-assisted design software and equipment.
- Provide support to engineering and project management associates.
