About The Position

As a Civil Engineering Intern in the Higher Education Market, you will play a key role in supporting the firm and shaping projects that make a difference—from concept through completion. You’ll collaborate with talented teammates, contribute your expertise, and help us deliver thoughtful, high-quality solutions for those we serve. Internships offer invaluable hands-on experience to enhance your knowledge and understanding of your chosen career path. At Shive-Hattery, you’ll be treated as a full-time staff member with access to the same opportunities for learning and growth. You’ll work on actual client projects, where your contributions will directly impact both Shive-Hattery and the community. This experience will help expand your professional skill set and strengthen your portfolio, setting you up for future success. You will be paired with a mid-to-senior level employee who will serve as your mentor. This mentor/mentee relationship is designed to foster a supportive environment where you can candidly discuss your career goals and aspirations. Our one-on-one informal mentoring approach fosters the development of professional relationships that complement your academic learning, enriching your overall internship experience. You will work on a variety of project types including site development, utility distribution, and stormwater design for higher education buildings, roadways, and campus projects. Additional opportunities for civil engineering projects like traffic, transportation, water resources, and more will be available to interested candidates as our team believes a well-rounded internship provides the best internship experience for those who are still unsure what their preferred practice area of civil engineering might be. These experiences will provide insights into the profession, collaborative teamwork, and serving the needs of our clients.

Requirements

• Must have current and ongoing authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
• A full clean driver’s license is required.
• Must submit cover letter, resume, and portfolio for consideration.
• If unable to submit portfolio due to size constraints, include a link to portfolio in cover letter.
