About The Position

Join HSQ Group, an HFW partner firm, as a Civil Engineering Inspector supporting construction observation and inspection services for civil infrastructure and land development projects throughout South Florida. Projects may include roadway improvements, drainage systems, utilities, and site development for both public and private clients. In this role, you will perform field inspections to ensure construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable regulatory standards. You will support projects for clients such as the Seminole Tribe of Florida, FDOT, Palm Beach County, Broward County, and Miami-Dade County, as well as private development projects. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, you will conduct project site visits on a scheduled or periodic basis depending on the phase of construction and project requirements.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in civil construction inspection, construction observation, or related field experience.
  • Experience inspecting land development or roadway infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, shop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of civil construction methods, materials, and testing procedures.
  • Strong written communication skills for daily reporting and documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites throughout South Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections and construction observation for civil infrastructure projects including roadway improvements, drainage systems, water distribution, sanitary sewer, and stormwater systems.
  • Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with approved construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and applicable agency standards.
  • Inspect underground utility installations including drainage systems (RCP, HDPE, structures), water mains, sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater conveyance infrastructure.
  • Verify that materials installed on-site match approved shop drawings and project submittals.
  • Observe and document construction procedures to confirm adherence to industry standards and project specifications.
  • Access existing drainage or utility structures as needed to verify pipe sizes, elevations, and field conditions when requested by the engineering team.
  • Witness and document testing procedures for infrastructure systems including lamping of gravity sewer and drainage pipelines, exfiltration/infiltration testing, and hydrostatic pressure testing for water mains.
  • Observe earthwork and roadway construction activities including subgrade preparation, limerock base installation, and asphalt paving operations.
  • Witness and verify compaction and density testing performed by geotechnical or materials testing laboratories.
  • Inspect concrete placement activities including formwork inspections, reinforcement placement, and concrete pours as required.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports documenting site activities, work completed, inspection observations, test results, non-conforming work, and photographic documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of inspections and construction progress.
  • Assist with coordinating contractors, project managers, and regulatory agencies during inspections as needed.
  • Support project closeout activities including final inspections and walkthroughs.
  • Communicate field observations, concerns, or potential issues to the Construction Manager in a timely manner.
  • Participate in project meetings as required.
  • Assist the Construction Manager and Project Design Team in addressing field issues and resolving construction-related challenges.
