About The Position

Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) is hiring a Civil Engineer for its Charlotte, North Carolina office to support civil and environmental engineering projects, primarily involving solid waste facilities. The role includes engineering analyses and design work such as airspace calculations, excavation and fill volume analysis, stormwater management, landfill grading, and leachate and landfill gas collection systems. The engineer will also contribute to technical reports, data management, and analysis, and participate in field activities, including Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) for landfill cell, cap, construction, and closure projects. The position collaborates with internal teams, clients, contractors, and field staff to support the design, construction, and certification of landfill projects. Work is divided between office and field environments. Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite for technical documentation and communication.
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, HydroCAD, or similar engineering modeling software.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to follow direction, manage tasks, and meet project deadlines.

Nice To Haves

Previous internship experience.
Experience supporting solid waste or landfill design projects.
Familiarity with Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) practices for earthwork or liner systems.
Experience performing stormwater modeling and design calculations.
Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments.
Interest in developing project management and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

Perform engineering analyses, including airspace modeling, excavation and fill volume calculations, and technical evaluations.
Prepare and assist with technical reports, design plans, specifications, and supporting documentation.
Design stormwater management systems and support landfill grading and infrastructure design, including leachate and landfill gas collection systems.
Conduct field work, including Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) for landfill construction and closure projects.
Manage and analyze project data to support engineering design and regulatory compliance.
Coordinate with project teams, clients, contractors, and field staff to support project execution.
Ensure the quality and accuracy of deliverables in accordance with regulatory and client requirements.
