About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join their Walnut Creek or Oakland team. This role will support planning, design, and plan production for site development and infrastructure projects, including grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater systems. The engineer will work under close supervision, focusing on structured assignments to build foundational civil engineering knowledge and learn company project workflows. This position offers an opportunity for an early-career engineer to learn fundamentals and progress towards more independent design work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
  • 0–2 years of experience
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout
  • Exposure to AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and maps
  • Beginning understanding of soil composition, terrain analysis, and hydrological data
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision
  • Prepare drawings and draft documents under direction
  • Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, aerial photographs, and geotechnical and hydrological data
  • Support feasibility studies and assembly of environmental impact data
  • Assist with cost calculations for labor and materials
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and on time
