About The Position

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We're looking for an Entry Level Civil Engineer to join our Walnut Creek or Oakland team as an entry-level engineer supporting planning, design, and plan production for site development and infrastructure projects — grading, drainage, utilities, and stormwater systems. You'll work under close supervision on structured, supervised assignments, building foundational civil engineering knowledge and Moffatt & Nichol project workflows. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer to learn the fundamentals and grow into more independent design work. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required
  • 0–2 years of experience
  • Basic understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, including grading, drainage, stormwater, utilities, and site layout
  • Exposure to AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and maps
  • Beginning understanding of soil composition, terrain analysis, and hydrological data
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of engineering design documents, plans, and specifications under direct supervision
  • Prepare drawings and draft documents under direction
  • Collect and organize field data, reports, maps, aerial photographs, and geotechnical and hydrological data
  • Support feasibility studies and assembly of environmental impact data
  • Assist with cost calculations for labor and materials
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and on time
