About The Position

Generally responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs for small and large civil/structural engineering assignments, applying theoretical knowledge and practical design methods under general supervision. The role involves producing preliminary and detailed designs, calculations, sketches, estimates, specifications, and construction support for process and manufacturing projects. It also includes coordinating with other disciplines, checking engineering work and submittals, supporting procurement and drafting, and providing technical guidance to less experienced personnel. The engineer may lead small to medium-sized teams and develop work-sharing packages for interoffice execution.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions.
At least 3 years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.
Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards, including ASCE, AISC, and ACI.
Expertise with civil/structural analysis software, including operating the software and interpreting results.
Knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices, and techniques for engineering, designing, and constructing process and manufacturing projects.
Ability to lead a small to medium-sized team and deliver on commitments.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Developed virtual-team skills and cross-divisional relationships, with ability to provide interoffice execution support under general supervision.
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods.
Authorization to work in the United States.

Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Follow department design and drafting standards and become familiar with project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to identify efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the estimate being prepared.
Prepare detailed design calculations and construction-material sketches, organizing calculations for efficient checking and use in drawings or deliverables.
Design for efficient use of construction materials, ease of construction, and client expectations.
Check other engineers’ calculations for accuracy and conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria, and good engineering practice.
Assist drafting personnel with routine layout and detailing problems and provide sufficient sketches and details for completing engineering drawings.
Coordinate with design leaders in other disciplines to support timely information flow and project completion.
Advise the senior engineer of identified design or scope changes.
Assist engineers in assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications into packages for procurement inquiries or subcontract pricing.
Review vendor drawings and drawings from other disciplines for civil/structural input.
Develop construction specifications.
Review fabrication drawings and construction submittals for conformance with engineering drawings and specifications.
Perform fieldwork to gather data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
Lead small to medium-sized teams coordinating civil/structural work and maintaining focus on scope, schedule, and budget.
Develop small work-sharing packages for interoffice execution support.
