About The Position

The Civil Engineer provides technical leadership and engineering expertise for planning, design, renovation, and delivery of civil and structural infrastructure supporting facilities, utilities, and capital projects. The role ensures that designs are safe, compliant, constructible, reliable, and aligned with operational, business, and site requirements. The Project Engineer partners with engineering disciplines, architects, project managers, facilities teams, EHS professionals, contractors, and external design firms throughout the project lifecycle. Travel to project sites and organizational locations is required as needed for project development, design reviews, field assessments, construction activities, commissioning, and stakeholder engagement. The role leads civil and structural engineering work across capital projects, from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and turnover. It includes developing and reviewing design criteria, calculations, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and engineering studies; evaluating existing conditions and risks; coordinating integrated engineering solutions; providing construction-phase support; and helping maintain engineering standards and practices. The position also provides technical mentoring and subject-matter support to project teams and less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree; or a master’s degree and 2 years of civil engineering, structural engineering, or related engineering experience; or a bachelor’s degree and 4 years of such experience; or an associate’s degree and 8 years of such experience; or a high school diploma/GED and 10 years of such experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in civil or structural engineering.
  • Advanced degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, research, or other regulated facility environments.
  • Experience with structural assessments, seismic evaluations, existing-building modifications, and infrastructure renewal projects.
  • Familiarity with stormwater management, site permitting, geotechnical engineering, and construction-phase engineering support.
  • Experience with relevant engineering software for structural analysis, civil design, or site-development planning.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical lead for civil and structural engineering requirements, design standards, specifications, and project execution.
  • Develop and review civil and structural design criteria, calculations, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and engineering studies.
  • Support projects involving site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, roads, parking areas, underground utilities, foundations, structural steel, concrete, and building modifications.
  • Evaluate existing site and structural conditions and identify constraints, risks, and required remediation or reinforcement measures.
  • Review engineering design packages for technical quality, code compliance, constructability, maintainability, safety, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, electrical, process, environmental, and facility engineering disciplines to develop integrated project solutions.
  • Lead technical aspects of capital projects from feasibility and concept development through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Travel as needed for site assessments, project meetings, design workshops, construction reviews, inspections, commissioning, and operational-readiness activities.
  • Provide construction-phase technical support, including field observations, resolution of design issues, review of contractor submittals, and evaluation of change requests.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes, structural standards, civil design requirements, permitting obligations, and environmental regulations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of civil and structural engineering standards, specifications, guidelines, and standard details.
  • Identify design risks, recommend practical mitigations, and support risk assessments related to facility modifications, infrastructure reliability, and site conditions.
  • Support commissioning and turnover activities to confirm civil and structural systems meet intended-use and operational requirements.
  • Monitor industry practices, codes, standards, and emerging technologies, and incorporate relevant improvements into engineering standards and project delivery practices.
  • Provide technical mentoring and subject-matter support to project teams and less-experienced engineers.
