About The Position

Join the Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer (Transportation) and play an important role in managing modern traffic systems. As a Traffic Control Specialist, you will perform the following duties: ITS Operations: Assist with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting ITS devices and communication systems Project Support: Help review ITS plans, attend technical training, and support equipment design activities Traffic Center Work: Support day-to-day operations of the Traffic Management Center and assist in training new staff Emergency Response: Participate in incident management activities, drills, and emergency communication efforts Permit Review: Review special event permits and coordinate needed changes with applicants Engineering Tasks: Conduct field views, support traffic studies, and assist with traffic signal evaluations.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
  • One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license
  • Ability to perform essential job functions
  • Pass a background investigation
