About The Position

Join the Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer (Transportation) and play an important role in managing modern traffic systems. This position supports Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) by helping maintain devices, assist with traffic operations, and contribute to engineering-related reviews. As a Traffic Control Specialist, you will perform the following duties: ITS Operations: Assist with operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting ITS devices and communication systems Project Support: Help review ITS plans, attend technical training, and support equipment design activities Traffic Center Work: Support day-to-day operations of the Traffic Management Center and assist in training new staff Emergency Response: Participate in incident management activities, drills, and emergency communication efforts Permit Review: Review special event permits and coordinate needed changes with applicants Engineering Tasks: Conduct field views, support traffic studies, and assist with traffic signal evaluations.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
• Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
• Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline
• One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
• Possession of a valid driver’s license
• Ability to perform essential job functions
• Pass a background investigation
