About The Position

Barr is seeking a senior civil engineer to join our Minneapolis team. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design civil group as part of multidisciplinary project teams providing civil engineering and related technical expertise primarily for dam structures, hydropower facilities, and flood control structures, such as spillways, outlet works, decant systems, overflow weirs, tunneling, pump/lift stations, and other types of hydraulic structures. As markets fluctuate, opportunities may also include working on renewable projects such as wind turbine foundation design, mining projects, and industrial processing facility projects. The ideal candidate for this position has great attention to detail; strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • 10 years of relevant experience.
  • PE certification or the ability to obtain within one year.
  • Ability to travel to and work in the U.S.
  • AutoCAD and familiarity with structural and /or geotechnical engineering analysis software such as Revit, RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, MathCAD, FLAC, Midas GTS and/or GeoStudio.
  • Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years of experience working on projects directly related to job responsibilities described above at a consulting engineering firm.
  • Master’s degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Familiarity with hydrotechnical, geotechnical, mechanical, and electrical aspects of hydropower operations.
  • Experience with pursuit and execution of projects utilizing a variety of delivery types such as construction manager general contractor (CMGC), design build (DB), and progressive design build (PDB).

Responsibilities

  • Complete dam safety reviews, audits, and inspections as well as structural analysis and design for hydraulic structures.
  • Lead the planning, coordinating, and executing of projects.
  • Help ensure project milestones are met and provide regular updates to project managers and clients.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships with dam, hydropower, and flood control clients.
  • Perform site inspections and minor construction observations.
