About The Position

HR Green is seeking a Civil Engineer – Land Development to join their Land Development Group. This position can be based in either their McHenry, IL or New Lenox, IL office. The role involves performing utility, grading, and drainage design for site development projects, including commercial sites and residential communities, with the expansion and/or extension of roadways and utility systems. The position offers opportunities for growth in technical skills and project leadership, with increasing levels of ownership and responsibility as experience grows. The engineer will contribute to planning, design, permitting, and construction support across the full project lifecycle, manage project tasks, and potentially project schedules, budgets, and deliverables. Collaboration with clients and municipalities is expected, as is mentoring junior team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • EIT required
  • 3+ years of experience in civil engineering, with land development experience preferred
  • Experience with tools such as Civil 3D, StormCAD, WaterCAD, or similar
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams

Nice To Haves

  • PE preferred or ability to obtain soon
  • Land development experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver civil/site projects—from grading and stormwater to water and wastewater systems
  • Take ownership of project components and, depending on experience, entire projects
  • Partner with internal teams, clients, and municipalities to solve real-world challenges
  • Lead or contribute to QA/QC efforts to ensure high-quality, buildable designs
  • Support projects through the full lifecycle, from early planning through construction
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the overall success of the team
