About The Position

The Roadway Repair and Maintenance (RRM) Contract Management team is responsible for managing DOT’s milling contracts, which are essential for street resurfacing prior to paving by RRM’s In-House Crews to meet yearly targets. This Unit oversees these contracts from their beginning to their closure. The role involves procuring contracts, developing design specifications and estimates, and working with DOT’s ACCO for bidding and registration. The Civil Engineer Intern will be responsible for accurately entering and reviewing field data in the MCMU database, ensuring data integrity, and providing training and assistance to other team members on its use. Additionally, the intern will review and process contractor requisitions, ensuring compliance and accuracy in invoices, perform cost estimates, generate daily average milled miles reports, and provide financial and operational data for decision-making. Collaboration with other units or City agencies on various projects is also expected. The intern will assist in preparing contract estimates and budgets, and manage task orders assigned to contractors, ensuring clarity and accuracy.

Requirements

  • Must have filed for exam #5047 for Civil Engineering Intern or be serving permanently in the title of Civil Engineering Intern.
  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.
  • A degree in any other engineering area or in civil engineering technology is not acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly review and accurately enter field data into the MCMU database.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy in the MCMU database.
  • Provide training and assistance to other MCMU members on using the MCMU access database.
  • Enhance team proficiency and ensure consistent use of the database.
  • Review and process requisitions submitted by contractors, ensuring compliance and accuracy in the contractor’s invoices.
  • Perform cost estimates and generate daily average milled miles reports.
  • Provide accurate financial and operational data for decision-making.
  • Collaborate with other units or City agencies on different projects.
  • Assist in preparing contract estimates and budgets and provide accurate financial data to support contract management.
  • Prepare and manage task orders assigned to contractors, ensure clarity and accuracy in contractor task assignments.
  • Conduct reviews of field data before entering it into the MCMU database and validate data accuracy prior to database entry.
