Civil Engineer I

Freeport McMoRan•Clifton, AZ
•$75,000 - $104,000•Onsite

About The Position

The Civil Engineer I supports site-wide water management at Freeport-McMoRan’s Morenci open-pit copper mining operation in Arizona. The role develops knowledge of engineering principles related to hydrology, hydraulics, hydrogeology, water treatment plant process design, and water quality to help quantify water balances across process, mine, and stormwater areas. The engineer assists operational areas with water data collection and quality assurance, instrument calibration verification, flowsheet mapping, operational rule updates, and standard water-accounting computations and analyses. Work includes process water circuits—with emphasis on tailings storage facilities and leach stockpiles—as well as stormwater and mine facilities. The position also contributes to understanding tailings, crushed leach, and water management systems, and helps maintain the site-wide water simulation model using production and climate scenarios to assess water-balance performance. The position is based at Morenci, approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona. On-site employees may be eligible for a monthly housing allowance subject to program guidelines. Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam and all required training or testing. The operation may require a non-standard schedule, including shift work other than day shift, and uses mandatory pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing as allowed by law.
