About The Position

The Civil Engineer I applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to assigned tasks, exercises limited judgment on work details, and develops an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities. The role works under close supervision, seeking assistance when needed and receiving guidance on unconventional or complex problems. The employee may travel to remote project sites for extended durations and perform field work in adverse Arctic conditions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to gather and analyze data and reason logically and creatively.
• Ability to prioritize and organize work, work under stress, and meet deadlines.
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to constant change.
• Ability to work flexible hours as required to meet deadlines.
• Interpersonal communication skills to assist staff and occasionally clients and contractors.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
• Ability to travel and perform field work in adverse Arctic conditions.
• Ability to perform tasks safely and responsibly.
• Ability to facilitate public meetings and speak publicly.
• Knowledge of civil construction techniques and sequencing.

Nice To Haves

• Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
• Experience with hydraulic modeling software, such as HEC-RAS.

Responsibilities

• Prepare drawings and visual aids using AutoCAD.
• Collect data and gather information.
• Assist with proposals for professional services.
• Prepare as-built record drawings.
• Prepare permit applications.
• Observe construction activities.
• Manage time effectively and request assistance when direction is needed.
• Travel to and from remote project sites for extended durations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
