About The Position

The Civil Engineer I/II works in the Engineering and Operations Department and assists with planning, designing, construction, and maintenance of the City’s public infrastructure and capital improvement projects. The position also assists with project management under the supervision of the Engineering Director. Civil Engineer I is Grade P. Civil Engineer II is Grade Q. Applicants with a Professional Engineer license and five years of relevant experience may be considered for Civil Engineer II. The position is full-time and exempt. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or another related engineering or science field relevant to the position.
Civil Engineer I: Two years of work experience in civil engineering plan review, engineering design, or closely related experience.
Civil Engineer II: Five years of work experience in civil engineering plan review, engineering design, or closely related experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for eligibility for City coverage.
Civil Engineer II applicants must be a Registered Professional Engineer in Illinois or able to obtain registration within six months.

Nice To Haves

Completion of the FE Exam is preferred for Civil Engineer I but is not required.
Work experience within a municipal or public works/public utilities department is preferred.
