About The Position

This position involves performing a variety of challenging technical and supportive professional engineering tasks within the Signal Systems Division. The role requires collaboration with RCOC technical and engineering staff to support the installation and modernization of traffic signals and other electrical devices. Responsibilities include preparing project documentation, monitoring contractor activities, coordinating with various departments, and reviewing design plans and reports. The engineer will also assist with special traffic engineering projects and must maintain a professional demeanor and consistent attendance.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to evolving project needs.
  • Proficiency in FieldManager, AASHTOWare, Bluebeam, LCP Tracker, ProjectWise, Autodesk software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Work with RCOC technical and engineering staff to support the installation and modernization of traffic signals and other electrical devices.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, estimates, bids, and proposals, and provide expertise on signal standards, details, past signal field experience, and contract documents.
  • Monitor contractor field activities to ensure materials and construction methods comply with contract drawings and specifications.
  • Document project field activities using current MDOT methods.
  • Coordinate with Permits, Traffic Safety, Highway Maintenance, Design, and Right-of-Way regarding construction, utilities, and project implementation.
  • Review and recommend approval of consultant traffic signal design plans (Permit and RCOC).
  • Review signal inspector field reports and construction shop drawings for compliance with contract documents.
  • Assist the Signal Field Operations Engineer with special traffic engineering projects.
  • Perform duties in a professional and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County.
  • Maintain a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation.
  • Provide regular and predictable onsite job attendance as an essential function of this position.
