Performs a variety of more difficult technical and supportive professional engineering tasks, including working with RCOC technical and engineering staff to support the installation and modernization of traffic signals and other electrical devices. Prepares plans, specifications, estimates, bids, and proposals, and provides expertise on signal standards, details, past signal field experience, and contract documents. Monitors contractor field activities to ensure materials and construction methods comply with contract drawings and specifications. Documents project field activities using current MDOT methods. Coordinates with Permits, Traffic Safety, Highway Maintenance, Design, and Right-of-Way regarding construction, utilities, and project implementation. Reviews and recommends approval of consultant traffic signal design plans (Permit and RCOC). Reviews signal inspector field reports and construction shop drawings for compliance with contract documents. Assists the Signal Field Operations Engineer with special traffic engineering projects. Must perform duties in a professional and courteous manner to promote a positive image of the Road Commission for Oakland County. Requires a daily schedule that supports RCOC hours of operation. Regular and predictable onsite job attendance is an essential function of this position.
