About The Position

Performs professional engineering work in the design or review of engineering plans and specifications for the construction of streets, sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, traffic signals, and parking facilities. Performs professional engineering work in the field of traffic studies including traffic data analysis and warrant studies. Responsible for the analysis and documentation of crash data for all areas within City limits and directs technicians in the deployment of traffic collection equipment. Prepare designs and specifications for construction and/or are responsible for the review of plans submitted by engineering consulting firms to ensure construction is compliant with City of Orlando standards and engineering principles, methods, and techniques. Work assignments are received from a professional supervisor who defines the scope of the work to be performed, but the employee is expected to plan details of work and make technical decisions. Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering
  • six (6) months experience in transportation engineering (for Civil Engineer I)
  • two (2) years experience in transportation engineering, to include at least one (1) year experience in transportation development review, traffic studies, or crash data analysis (for Civil Engineer II)
  • four (4) years experience in transportation engineering including at least two (2) years experience in transportation development review, traffic studies, or crash data analysis (for Civil Engineer III & IV)
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required
  • Registration as an Engineer Intern (EI) required (for Civil Engineer III)
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Florida required (for Civil Engineer IV)

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year supervisory experience desired (for Civil Engineer III & IV)
  • Traffic Modeling Software (Synchro, Sidra, or CFRPM) and/or Microstation/AutoCAD experience desired
