Civil Engineer (Hydraulic)

The Department of Environmental Protection is seeking a motivated Civil Engineer (Hydraulic) who is ready to take on meaningful engineering challenges. Requirements
- Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
- Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
- One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
- Compute project discharge values using prediction methods, rainfall data, maps, and computer programs
- Review stream channels, bridges, and culverts to determine water flow behavior and floodplain limits
- Coordinate environmental assessments and consider impacts related to proposed project features
- Help prepare engineering plans, specifications, and design components for flood protection projects
- Conduct site visits, surveys, and investigations to gather data and assess flooding conditions
- Work with engineers, agencies, and local officials to share information and address project needs
