About The Position

The Civil Engineer Associate III will perform intermediate to advanced-level engineering duties associated with the design of civil engineering projects. This position supports all aspects of design projects for roadways, utilities, transit, etc.; prepares schematics & models; performs analysis & engineering calculations; develops plans, specifications & estimates; prepares technical engineering reports; may perform field duties for various civil engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institute of higher education with a major study in engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
  • Exempt (Salaried)
  • Typically 6+ years of experience required.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Spatial and design skills to visualize projects in 2D and 3D.
  • Intermediate to advanced engineering skills to compliment position goal.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, Bluebeam, and CADD software, specifically the Bentley Suite of products including Open Roads Designer, ProjectWise and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Intermediate to advanced background in and knowledge of local agency standards preferred.
  • May supervise the work of less experienced staff; may lead projects.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses foundational engineering concepts.
  • Acquires intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills through mentored experience.
  • Evaluates and applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks as part of a broader assignment.
  • Performs work assignments of moderate to advanced complexity. Contributes to specific objectives and outcomes.
  • Receives instruction on specific objectives and direction on possible solutions to unconventional or complex problems.
  • Works as part of a team and coordinates work with others.
  • Typically receives moderate supervision on most aspects of assignments and a general review of all aspects of work but may work independently.
  • Possesses proficient oral and written communication skills.
  • Interacts with both internal project team members as well as direct communication with clients or other stakeholders.
  • Adheres to project deadlines and keeps the task manager informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
  • Performs review of own work before submitting to the next review level.
  • Develops detailed construction plans for roadway, utility, electrical, and transportation projects using Bentley and/or AutoDesk software.
  • Coordinates design changes and revisions based on internal or external feedback.
  • Communicates regularly with internal design staff and project lead to coordinate the progress of various assignments and adhere to project deadlines. May act as project lead.
  • Independently manages time and schedule to achieve multiple project milestones.
  • Organizes and maintains project files. May lead documentation of correspondence and meeting minutes.
  • Evaluates and applies applicable current engineering standards, and federal and/or local requirements to assigned projects.
  • Helps coordinate and document completion of quality control reviews throughout the lifecycle of a project.
  • Participates in meetings with clients.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers. May perform peer reviews.
  • Complete state-required competency.
  • Attend job-related seminars and workshops.
