About The Position

CDM Smith is seeking a junior Civil Engineer to join our Water Services team in Phoenix, AZ. Under direct supervision, this hire will create basic to moderate complexity engineering designs involving site layout development, site grading and drainage, hydraulics and hydrology calculations, water distribution systems, collection systems, storage tanks and impoundments, foundation designs, stormwater infrastructure and treatment, and occasionally single-story structures. The role involves reviewing draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations, ensuring firm policies and practices are followed, and performing site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications. Additionally, the position contributes to the firm's Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) by developing white papers and technical design documentation, submitting technical papers and designs for publishing, and potentially creating presentation materials for conferences.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
1 year of related experience.
Intermediate Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design.
Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.).
Good written and verbal communications skills.
An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.

Responsibilities

Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications, updating design requirements as necessary.
Contributes to firm's Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) by developing white papers and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc..
Submits technical papers and designs for publishing to technical journals.
May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for a conference.
