About The Position

Kimley-Horn's San Diego, CA office is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with 2+ years of experience to join their Transit team. This is not a remote position. The selected candidate will contribute to the production and delivery of transit and rail projects with a particular focus on, but not limited to: Transit and Rail Projects: Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Light Rail Transit (LRT) Transit Centers / Maintenance Facilities At-Grade Railroad Crossings. Civil Engineering Tasks will include: Horizontal and vertical alignments, grading and drainage design, streetscape and roadway improvements, multimodal design, including multi-use trails and complete streets, traffic signal preemption calculations, and signage, striping, and signalization plans. Tasks will include concept development, final design, schedule development, and cost estimating. The role requires an entrepreneurial spirit, creating a vision for growth in their personal practice while contributing to the growth of our well-established transportation practice. The candidate will assist with managing their projects profitably, engage in hands-on practice and delivery of projects, transition work to qualified staff, act as a positive leader and mentor, and contribute significantly to marketing and business development efforts with the autonomy to pursue their own passions, leads, and clients. As a critical member of the team, you will perform a variety of engineering tasks and will receive both on-the-job and formal training as well as mentorship and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of transit and/or roadway-focused engineering experience.
  • Corridor design experience with a focus on roadway and/or rail modes.
  • Roadway, guideway, and facility design.
  • Bachelors or Masters from an ABET accredited university in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • "Engineer-In-Training" or "Engineering Intern" certification.
  • Experience using Synchro, VISSIM, and/or other traffic analysis software applications.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Communicating technical thoughts clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
