About The Position

Kimley-Horn's San Diego, CA office is seeking a Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with 2+ years of experience to join their Transit team. This is not a remote position. The selected candidate will contribute to the production and delivery of transit and rail projects with a particular focus on, but not limited to: Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), Transit Centers / Maintenance Facilities, and At-Grade Railroad Crossings. Tasks will include concept development, final design, schedule development, and cost estimating. Civil Engineering tasks include horizontal and vertical alignments, grading and drainage design, streetscape and roadway improvements, multimodal design, traffic signal preemption calculations, and signage, striping, and signalization plans. The role involves assisting with managing projects profitably, engaging in hands-on project delivery, transitioning work to qualified staff, acting as a positive leader and mentor, and contributing to marketing and business development efforts. As a critical member of the team, you will perform a variety of engineering tasks and receive on-the-job and formal training, mentorship, and exposure to plan production, project financials, and client interactions.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of transit and/or roadway-focused engineering experience.
  • Corridor design experience with a focus on roadway and/or rail modes.
  • Roadway, guideway, and faculty design experience.
  • Bachelors or Masters from an ABET accredited university in the field of Civil Engineering.
  • "Engineer-In-Training" or "Engineering Intern" certification.
  • Experience using Synchro, VISSIM, and/or other traffic analysis software applications.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate technical thoughts clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with an ability to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
