About The Position

Timmons Group is seeking a talented Civil Designer to join their dynamic Water/Wastewater Group in the Richmond, VA office. This role involves performing civil site design tasks for a variety of water/wastewater infrastructure projects. Requirements

  • At least three years of design/engineering experience in municipal infrastructure is required.
  • Intermediate to advanced ability to use AutoCAD Civil 3D software is required.
  • Must possess strong technical verbal and technical writing skills and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans.
  • Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities.
  • Must demonstrate two-way communication to effectively work with internal staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to use other engineering automation tools (Revit, BIM 360) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Use professional judgment to independently complete assigned engineering designs.
  • Lead and execute civil site design tasks across diverse infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and mentor junior engineers.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Make impactful design decisions that align with client goals and project timelines.
  • Identify and resolve technical, scheduling, or financial challenges.
  • Support construction oversight and respond to contractor inquiries.
  • Contribute to proposals, cost estimates, and client communications.
  • Act as a technical expert on assigned projects and as Project Manager on smaller scope or specialty projects as assigned.
