About The Position

The Project Engineer role is intended for experienced designers who can independently take the lead in designing, scheduling, and coordinating their own projects with minimal assistance from a Project Manager. The Project Engineer is responsible for collaborating with the Project Manager/Senior Project Manager in conducting project management administration duties (i.e., billing/invoices and budget tracking) for certain projects as determined by the manager.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in site development and design of various projects (i.e. Residential, Commercial, Mixed-used projects, Public and Private Entities, projects subject to DSA approval, etc.)
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering Or, two (2) years of on-the-job experience equivalent professional engineering experience
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate is required
Working towards California Professional Engineering (PE) License is required
Proficient using complex features of Civil 3D /AutoCAD including corridors, hydrology, pipe networks, etc.
Proficient using various engineering software (ie HydroCAD, WaterCAD, AutoTurn, etc.)
Ability to effectively communicate with co-consultants and governing municipalities / agencies to seek required approvals
Experience in general and complex civil engineering design topics
Knowledge of civil engineering topics including hydraulic/hydrology, storm water quality, geometric layout, geotechnical and structural analysis
Knowledge of general state and local government agency requirements
Strong problem-solving, communication, and listening skills
Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced team environment

Responsibilities

Lead Designer of various sized civil engineering projects
Perform, manage, and/or coordinate design aspects of various assigned projects from planning to construction phase
Work with Project Manager to determine scheduling of project deliverables
Work with Project Manager and / or Senior Project Manager in conducting managerial duties for the team’s projects, as needed and indicated by project manager
Assist with preparing billing invoices
Track budgets and help determine addendum or add service approval is required
Determine project status and schedule project deliverables (for assigned projects) to keep clients / project consultants informed with Project Manger’s I/II input and guidance
Work with Project Managers I /II and, or Senior Design Engineer in training and mentoring team members
Lead coordination with consultants (project architect, geotechnical engineer, structural engineer, arborist, surveyor and/or contractor) for various design aspects of projects
Review co-consultant reports, plans and/or recommendations and effectively implement into project design and documentation
Review Contractor RFI’s and Material submittals
Review (QC/QA) plans with supporting documents for preliminary, permit and construction phases for assigned projects
Lead meetings, site visits and field inspections with contractors and project consultants as needed
Full design responsibility for Site Development, Grading and Drainage Plans, On Site and Street Improvement plans, Storm Water Quality, Utility Plans, Parking Lot layout, Tentative Maps, Feasibility Exhibits for land development projects.
Compute design calculations including earthwork quantities, impervious surface areas, drainage analysis
Prepare reports and supporting documents including hydrology reports, feasibility studies, engineers cost estimates and required presentation material (i.e. documents and exhibits) for governing agency hearing
