About The Position

In the role of Civil Construction Inspector, Rail, we'll count on you to provide inspection and construction supervision on Class 1 railway projects. You will maintain accurate daily diary entries and completion of contract documentation records, as well as daily photographic records and videos as necessary to document contract activities. You will complete site surveys of completed works for tracking item and material quantities for payment and complete daily inspections in accordance to client requirements and expectations. Monitoring construction work is in accordance to contract documents and specifications, and monitoring the contractor’s compliance to health and safety, and environmental regulations and legislation are key responsibilities. You will supervise and implement quality assurance acceptance and inspection of construction works. You will report to the Project Manager onsite activities, concerns, and non-conformances, and provide recommendations for resolution. Additionally, you will provide mentorship to junior staff and liaise with client representatives, as required, acting as client site representative. This role requires working nights, weekends, and extended shifts. Work may be seasonal in nature, as work permits. Other duties as assigned. The role of Civil Construction Inspector, Rail is a casual, temporary, as-needed position. There will not be a set schedule but will be notified when we have work available.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent. (Candidates with 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience may substitute experience for a high school diploma)
  • A minimum of 3 years experience
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook)
  • Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Requires working nights, weekends, and extended shifts
  • Be able to read and interpret construction design drawings
  • Able to work weekends and nights, as needed
  • Ability to work in a team environment and independently in remote location
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Valid license with an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with engineering or construction
  • Previous experience working with CN Rail and CP Rail projects
  • Previous experience working on municipal or provincial transportation projects would be as assist, but not required
