About The Position

Ramboll is seeking a Civil 3D Designer / CAD Technician for their Environment & Health Division, focusing on land development projects. This hybrid-based role, located in Syracuse, Rochester, or Albany, NY, involves providing drafting and design support for large-scale site development projects, including data centers and industrial facilities. The position will focus on creating conceptual layouts and civil plan sets covering grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, and erosion control. The ideal candidate will collaborate with a growing national civil engineering team, working with civil engineers, CAD designers, environmental specialists, and other technical professionals. The role is crucial for supporting site due diligence, master planning, preliminary engineering, permitting, detailed design, and construction support within the Civil Engineering and Design team.

Requirements

• Technical diploma, associate degree, or equivalent experience in civil engineering technology, CAD drafting/design, surveying, or a related field.
• Approximately 3+ years of civil/site CAD drafting and design experience with strong proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Experience developing land development plans and Civil 3D models, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, pipe networks, surfaces, alignments, and profiles.
• Ability to interpret surveys, engineering markups, design calculations, and construction documents while producing accurate, high-quality deliverables under project deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Experience with Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk Forma, GIS, or data center/industrial projects.
• Strong production focus with consistent attention to drawing quality and file organization.
• Ability to work independently from clear direction and to ask timely questions when design intent is uncertain.

Responsibilities

• Provide Civil 3D drafting and design support for land development projects throughout due diligence, planning, design, permitting, and construction.
• Prepare and maintain site development plans, including grading, drainage, utilities, roadways, erosion control, and construction details using Civil 3D.
• Develop and manage Civil 3D models, including surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors, pipe networks, and earthwork quantity calculations.
• Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, environmental specialists, and other project teams to produce accurate, coordinated drawings and technical deliverables.
• Ensure quality and compliance by maintaining organized project files, adhering to CAD standards, performing quality checks, and supporting field data collection and construction-phase revisions.
