About The Position

Verkada is seeking a CISO to evolve its security strategy, technical capabilities, and operating model as the company scales its global business. The role leads an established security organization of approximately 30 professionals and focuses on strengthening device and product security, detection and response, customer data protection, and readiness for expanding regulatory requirements and a potential IPO. As a member of the CTO’s engineering leadership team, the CISO partners with Engineering, Product, Legal, and business functions to manage security risk while supporting innovation. The role calls for technical depth across hardware, software, cloud, and AI security, together with the organizational leadership needed to scale security practices and capabilities. The CISO will also support customer and partner discussions and provide quarterly written security reports to the board. The position is based in person in San Mateo alongside the engineering organization.

Requirements

Hands-on expertise across hardware/IoT, cloud, software, and AI security.
Ability to engage directly on Linux-based devices, firmware, edge AI/ML workloads, and secure update practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead and scale an approximately 30-person organization spanning product security, detection and response, data protection, and compliance.
Strong command of B2B security requirements across jurisdictions, including Europe and Australia, and ability to translate obligations into practical controls.
Ability to earn credibility with technical teams and collaborate with stakeholders ranging from firmware engineers to lawyers and junior IT staff while maintaining security fundamentals.
Ability to reason from first principles, evaluate trade-offs, and make clear, defensible decisions balancing security requirements with business and engineering priorities.
Credibility with customers, partners, and the board; ability to explain complex risks and support challenging customer discussions.
Willingness and ability to work in person in San Mateo alongside the engineering organization.

Responsibilities

Set security priorities, develop talent, and scale the security organization’s capabilities and responsibilities as the business grows.
Partner with product and firmware engineering to secure Linux-based devices, edge AI/ML workloads, and the software update lifecycle.
Lead security across cloud infrastructure and software, embedding security practices into development and operations.
Oversee security operations, automated threat detection, incident response, and continuous improvement of monitoring and response capabilities.
Strengthen safeguards for customer and company data across devices, applications, and cloud services.
Lead security compliance across jurisdictions, including Europe and Australia, and mature the program for the company’s next stage.
Manage third-party providers supporting penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, and detection capabilities.
Support complex customer and partner discussions.
Provide quarterly written security reports to the board, communicating risks, priorities, and progress.
Partner across engineering, product, legal, and business functions to manage security risk while supporting innovation.
