About The Position

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for senior circuit design engineers with doctoral-level expertise and substantial hands-on industry experience designing analog, digital, power, or RF circuits. This role supports an advanced AI research initiative focused on creating highly challenging electrical engineering problems grounded in realistic circuit design scenarios. Selected professionals will author original free-response problems, develop complete expert-level solutions, and evaluate each problem against frontier AI models to ensure it requires sophisticated engineering reasoning.

Requirements

  • A PhD in Electrical Engineering is required
  • Doctoral-level technical expertise should be complemented by substantial hands-on industry experience
  • Practical experience designing and delivering real circuits or electronic systems is particularly important for this engagement
  • Hands-on circuit design experience is required
  • Candidates should have experience shipping, releasing, or taping out real designs
  • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a major semiconductor, electronics, aerospace, automotive, telecommunications, energy, or technology organisation
  • Advanced analog or mixed-signal circuit design experience
  • Digital circuit or integrated circuit design expertise
  • Background in power electronics
  • RF or high-frequency circuit design experience
  • Experience taking designs through tape-out or production release
  • Prior experience authoring engineering assessments, technical problems, or training materials
  • Familiarity with AI models or structured technical evaluation

Responsibilities

  • Author original, technically rigorous free-response problems involving real-world circuit design
  • Develop questions requiring advanced engineering reasoning rather than straightforward textbook recall
  • Create scenarios involving analog, digital, power, or RF circuit design
  • Incorporate realistic design constraints, specifications, trade-offs, and implementation considerations
  • Ensure problems reflect authentic professional circuit design workflows
  • Apply advanced circuit theory and electrical engineering principles to complex design problems
  • Develop scenarios involving component selection, circuit architecture, performance requirements, and design optimisation
  • Incorporate practical considerations such as noise, power, stability, bandwidth, signal integrity, efficiency, or reliability where relevant
  • Evaluate design decisions using realistic technical and production constraints
  • Ensure technical assumptions and calculations are accurate and internally consistent
  • Write complete expert-level solutions for each authored problem
  • Clearly document calculations, assumptions, methodology, and engineering reasoning
  • Explain relevant circuit behaviour and design trade-offs with appropriate technical depth
  • Ensure solutions are rigorous, reproducible, and independently verifiable
  • Produce reference answers suitable for evaluating advanced engineering reasoning
  • Test authored problems against multiple frontier language models
  • Evaluate whether current AI systems can correctly solve each engineering problem
  • Identify reasoning errors, design mistakes, calculation failures, or incomplete technical approaches
  • Refine problems where necessary to maintain an appropriately demanding level of difficulty
  • Validate that each question meaningfully tests advanced circuit design expertise
