About The Position

The Assignment Assistant takes direction from and supports the Director of Central Assignment and Assistant Director of Assignment in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County. The Central Assignment Office implements procedures and policies adopted by the Circuit Court Bench to promote the efficient and effective administration of justice in Baltimore County.

Requirements

  • Must have graduated high school plus four years of continuous clerical experience.
  • Earned an A.A. degree in related field plus two year’s clerical experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and succeed within strict deadlines.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of office practices and equipment.
  • Exceptional customer focus skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Exercise a high degree of judgment.
  • Tact, diplomacy and competence in dealing with, the public and high level professionals.
  • Ability to understand legal procedures and interpret policies.
  • Must have the ability to work independently.
  • Must have the ability to navigate system software at a rapid pace and be experienced in Word, Excel, or other data bases.
  • Strong detail orientation and highly organized.
  • Must possess the ability to plan and execute schedules on a daily basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Legal or court related experience highly preferred.
  • Additional education beyond an associated degree may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to a maximum of four years for the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Enters hearing dates into computer and send out notices.
  • Schedules cases for court.
  • Assigns cases and dockets to various judges.
  • Works closely with the criminal case manager and jury office to move jury.
  • Reschedules cases not reached.
  • Extensive and in-depth communication with attorneys and judges regarding trial dates, duration of trials and issues to be heard.
  • Daily contact with clerk office personnel, judges and their staff.
  • Maintains statistics on cases that are not reached.
  • Maintains various calendars for the court and schedules of the Circuit Court Bench.
  • Performs various diversified tasks and assignments as required.
