The purpose of this position is to assist Sacramento County Social Services with Christmas efforts. This role involves interviewing clients online and virtually, preparing necessary paperwork for families participating in the Christmas Program and other assistance programs (rent, utilities, food). The assistant will support the Supervisor with the Christmas Assistance Program at Family Services and Cal Expo, focusing on the Angel Tree program. Responsibilities include providing intakes, assessments, and financial assistance to low-income families and individuals, preparing client files, entering data, compiling records, and preparing reports. The role also requires maintaining records of interviews and assistance provided or denied, referring clients to community resources, and accessing/recording client and community resource information. Timely submission of all required paperwork and meeting deadlines are essential. The position involves making phone calls and sending follow-up emails to toy donors, answering inquiries about Angel Tree and toy drives, ordering Christmas supplies, and maintaining Angel Tree tags. Building donor relationships through phone and email, composing routine correspondence, and updating the Christmas operation tracking spreadsheet in Excel daily are also key duties. The assistant will organize and maintain various tracking spreadsheets and forms, prepare Angel Tree delivery bags, record and track toy barrel deliveries/pickups, and communicate with the Operations Manager. Distributing Angel Tree tags and paperwork, coordinating with Social Services using the Christmas registration database, and training at Social Services for application intakes and software are required. The role includes communicating with media sponsors, arranging tag delivery, and assigning pickup dates. Assisting with Angel Tree at malls and keeping the area neat, processing Angel Tree tags, and training volunteers on Angel Tree procedures are also part of the job. Transferring toys to storage and delivering Angel Tree tags/picking up donations from donors may be necessary. The Christmas Assistant must act as a role model, maintain a positive and respectful attitude, communicate regularly with their supervisor, report to work on time, and represent The Salvation Army in accordance with its mission. Professional presentation, including attire, is expected.
