About The Position

Under the direction of the choir director, the Choir Accompanist accompanies the choir during rehearsals and concerts and assists the director with rehearsals and concerts. This role involves performing piano accompaniment for practice, rehearsals, and performances of college choirs. The accompanist will also lead section rehearsals by playing parts, identifying student mistakes and problem areas, correcting mistakes, and providing the right notes and rhythms. Additionally, the accompanist will assist by leading rehearsals as necessary and coach solos and ensembles by arranging or transposing music, teaching notes and rhythm, recognizing and resolving intonation problems, teaching good vocal techniques, providing suggestions regarding interpretation of music, and encouraging students.

Requirements

• Advanced piano skills
• In-depth understanding of reading music
• At least one (1) year of experience in accompanying
• Demonstrates BHC core values.
