About The Position

District of Columbia International School (DCI) is a public charter school serving over 1600 racially and economically diverse students in grades 6-12 from across the District of Columbia. We aim to provide our students with a world-class education that empowers them to follow their passions and change the world. DCI’s education centers on an International Baccalaureate curriculum, advanced language learning in Chinese, Spanish, and French, and a culture focused on student agency supported by 1:1 technology. This role involves teaching Chinese to diverse learners through relative immersion methods. The teacher will plan middle school curriculum (grades 6-8) aligned with the IB DP Language curriculum framework and IB MYP/DP + Chinese language immersion. Responsibilities include advising students and teaching an advisory class using an advisory curriculum, supporting the instructional program, and demonstrating the ability to work in an intense, high-performing charter school environment. The ideal candidate will maximize student engagement and learning, accept and implement feedback, and pursue continuous professional development. Collaboration with general and special educators, coordinators, and leadership is essential, as is a high degree of communication with parents and students through various mediums. The role also includes leading or participating in cultural activities for faculty and students and implementing the 1:1 Chromebook technology program. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required, and background checks may be conducted.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Chinese, Education, or related field.
  • Hold (or be eligible for) appropriate state certification.
  • Ability to plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies.
  • Fluency in Chinese (Mandarin).
  • Ability to work in an intense, high-performing charter school.
  • Ability to accept and implement feedback.
  • Ability to continue professional development.
