About The Position

Under general supervision, installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems and equipment; performs related work as required. This is the entry-level class in the Chiller Technician series. Incumbents perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of HVACR systems. Work is typically performed in a variety of settings including classrooms, offices, and other District facilities. This class is distinguished from the Chiller Technician II by the performance of less complex duties and the need for closer supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
  • Valid Nevada Driver’s License.
  • Universal EPA Certification.
  • Knowledge of HVACR systems, including electrical, mechanical, and control components.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventive maintenance on HVACR systems and equipment, including cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting components.
  • Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions in HVACR systems, including electrical, mechanical, and control system issues.
  • Installs new HVACR equipment and systems according to specifications.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Maintains accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Operates a variety of tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Responds to emergency service calls as needed.
  • Follows safety procedures and regulations.
  • Assists higher-level technicians as needed.
