About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Children’s Coordinator/ Children and Family Services Counselor is responsible for working with children and developing family service plans and family recertification plans. Position may require background check approval from HCCSCD. Tobacco-free workplace Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be as assigned. Completes children’s assessments; provides play therapy, individual child therapy for older children/siblings, and mom-child and other family therapy; facilitates coaching/supports based on video and/or direct observation of mom/child interactions. Conducts family home visits as needed. Develops family service plans and works as part of MIRRORS+ team to integrate/ coordinate family/reunification/recovery plans with the woman’s individual treatment plan. Assists with Celebrating Families! and other family support/education groups and parent/child therapeutic bonding activities. Participates in scheduled trainings/meetings; participates in data collection/submission as needed to meet project goals. Maintains records and completes appropriate documentation; other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work or related field (LCSW, LMSW, LMFT, LPC or equivalent)
  • 3+ years’ experience providing individual/group therapeutic interventions and principles of case management for diverse PPW, children, and families in SUD treatment/social services settings
  • Experience implementing/practicing evidence-based practices, such as Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing, and delivery of curriculum-based education services
  • Willing to become certified as Infant Mental Health Specialist within first 6 months of employment if not already certified
  • Willing to become TBRI trained
  • Knowledge of addiction as a chronic relapsing disorder and principles of effective treatment
  • Understanding of issues related to trauma, abuse and neglect, violence, PTSD, and co-occurring disorders
  • Knowledge of health and social systems in the community
  • Ability to analyze information and implement plans
  • Master’s degree in social work or related field
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Clinical Master in Social Work (LCSW), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), or M.Ed, Psychology Post Doc under clinical supervision
  • If driving on SMH business, must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and provide proof of current insurance
