About The Position

The Childminder is responsible for working in partnership with the Head Childminder to develop the Enhanced Childminding (ECM) Program in order to ensure a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for preschool children (aged 18 months to 5 years) of newcomers with English as a second language.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of childminding experience
  • Experience working with children from different age groups
  • Experience working with children with extra support needs
  • Experience working with immigrants, newcomers and/or refugees
  • Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant-related services
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and developmental needs of infants and toddlers
  • Knowledge of common family and parenting issues and needs in an intercultural context
  • Knowledge of local community resources for immigrants and newcomers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Excellent technical skills in MS office and web-based applications (e.g. MS Teams and Zoom)
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a cooperative team environment
  • Ability to handle the physical demands of childminding

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as Licensed BC Early Childhood Educator to work with infants and toddlers is an asset
  • Certification in First Aid with specialization in emergency childcare
  • Certification in Foodsafe is an asset
  • Additional languages considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate and stimulating ECM program for children between 18 months and 5 years old in partnership, guidance, and support of the Head Childminder
  • Organizes the provision of nutritious snacks to children of the ECM Program
  • Remains up-to-date on emergency procedures and Childminding regulations
  • Maintains a positive and supportive relationship with parents, staff, and community partners
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager
  • Keeps parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their child’s progress in a clear, appropriate, and sensitive manner
  • Ensures equipment in the facility is maintained, operational, and safe at all times
  • Provides everyday language support to children with English as a Second Language (ESL) needs
