About The Position

The Childminder is responsible for working in partnership with the Head Childminder to develop the Enhanced Childminding (ECM) Program in order to ensure a safe and developmentally appropriate environment for preschool children (aged 18 months to 5 years) of newcomers with English as a second language.

Requirements

Minimum 2 years of childminding experience
Experience working with children from different age groups
Experience working with children with extra support needs
Experience working with immigrants, newcomers and/or refugees
Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant-related services
Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and developmental needs of infants and toddlers
Knowledge of common family and parenting issues and needs in an intercultural context
Knowledge of local community resources for immigrants and newcomers
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
Excellent technical skills in MS office and web-based applications (e.g. MS Teams and Zoom)
Excellent organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and in a cooperative team environment
Ability to handle the physical demands of childminding

Nice To Haves

Certification as Licensed BC Early Childhood Educator to work with infants and toddlers is an asset
Certification in First Aid with specialization in emergency childcare
Certification in Foodsafe is an asset
Additional languages considered an asset

Responsibilities

Plans and implements a developmentally appropriate and stimulating ECM program for children between 18 months and 5 years old in partnership, guidance, and support of the Head Childminder
Organizes the provision of nutritious snacks to children of the ECM Program
Remains up-to-date on emergency procedures and Childminding regulations
Maintains a positive and supportive relationship with parents, staff, and community partners
Other related duties as assigned by the Program Manager
Keeps parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their child’s progress in a clear, appropriate, and sensitive manner
Ensures equipment in the facility is maintained, operational, and safe at all times
Provides everyday language support to children with English as a Second Language (ESL) needs
