JOB PURPOSE: The Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and or grounds in compliance with applicable standards.

Requirements

  • Completed High School, plus specialized courses of up to six (6) months.
  • Building Service Worker Certificate or Diploma
  • WHIMS
  • First Aid
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Three months of prior related experience, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.
  • Frequently operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, etc
  • Moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks
  • Checks doors and windows to ensure building security
  • Reports safety concerns and repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures)
  • Restocks washroom supplies
  • Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpet
  • Performs other duties as assigned
