Childcare Floating Substitute Teacher - Full-time

About The Position

This is a grant funded, full-time position where the Floating Substitute provides support across all child care sites (Washington and Ozaukee County), classrooms and age groups (6 weeks to 5 year olds), stepping in as needed to maintain safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environments for children. This role is highly flexible, covering teacher absences, breaks, transitions, and assisting with daily routines. The Float works collaboratively with classroom teachers and leadership to ensure continuity of care and smooth program operations.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience working with children in a licensed child care setting preferred.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and routines.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Valid Driver’s license required.
Must meet state licensing requirements for child care Teacher (CPR/First Aid, background check, health report, education qualifications, etc.).
Bloodborne Pathogens/Child Abuse Prevention every year

Nice To Haves

Coursework in Early Childhood Education (ECE) preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise and engage children in age-appropriate activities.
Provide classroom coverage during staff absences, breaks, or planning time.
Support teachers with daily routines such as meals, rest time, outdoor play, and transitions.
Adapt quickly to different classrooms and age groups (6 weeks to 5-year-olds).
Follow all health, safety, and licensing regulations.
Assist with classroom organization, cleaning, and preparation of materials as needed.
Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and staff.
Communicate effectively with assistant teachers, teachers and directors to understand daily needs.
Adhere to the Code of Conduct and policies within the Child Abuse Prevention handbook.
Model professionalism, reliability, and flexibility at all times.
