About The Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position. The position may continue into the academic year, if agreed upon. The role involves assisting in the implementation of planned activities that promote growth in all developmental domains, setting a positive example of how learning is fun, and assisting children with activities to further their growth and development. It also includes assisting with the set-up and clean-up of activities, maintaining strict confidentiality, and promoting a positive and friendly atmosphere to families and individuals. The assistant will be a positive role model of professionalism and become knowledgeable of and carry out the University Children’s Learning Center policies and goals. The role requires working closely with teachers to create a close, caring, respectful relationship with each child’s family, and assisting in the preparation of a rich, stimulating, learning environment. This may require moving and carrying furniture, lifting 30 lb. bags of sand or rice, and carrying outdoor equipment. The position also involves assisting in providing a healthy and safe environment, requiring agility and strength, and assisting in maintaining the daily routine that meets children’s needs for rest, nutrition, quiet and active play, both in and outdoors.

Requirements

Complete and maintain membership in professional organizations (local, state, and national).
Attend workshops, seminars, conferences, and enroll in college courses that promote one’s professional growth.
Practice use of ideas and knowledge acquired, sharing this information with other staff.
Maintain familiarity and meet minimum requirements as indicated by the ND Child Care Center Early Childhood Services -Chapter 75-03-10, Licensing Rules and Regulations.
Adhere to these policies to the best of your ability.
Attend the appropriate amount of certified training annually.
Keep current on Early Childhood Education and Child Care issues.
Must be available 11 AM to 2:30 PM Tuesday and Thursday.
Successfully complete a Criminal Background Check - includes fingerprinting.
Upon being hired, UCLC will provide the following: Enrollment in North Dakota Growing Futures training program for childcare professional development.
Basic child care course from North Dakota Growing Futures called, "Getting Started". This must be completed within 90 days of employment.
CPR/First Aid/AED training. This must be completed within 60 days of employment.
ND Mandated Reporter Training.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
This position does not support visa sponsorship for continued employment.

Nice To Haves

Experience working with children 3-5 years old.
Focus on early childhood education, child development, elementary education, nursing, occupational therapy, or related fields.

Responsibilities

Assist Experienced Teachers in offering support to students-in-training.
Be a positive role model of professionalism to all employees at the Learning Center.
Answer questions, if able, or find an experienced teacher to answer the questions.
Become knowledgeable of and carry out the University Children’s Learning Center policies and goals as outlined in the Student Caregiver Guide.
Become familiar with the Parent Guide.
Work closely with the teachers to create a close, caring, respectful relationship with each child’s family.
Assist in preparation of a rich, stimulating, learning environment for children.
Assist in providing a healthy and safe environment.
Assist in maintaining the daily routine that meets children’s need for rest, nutrition, quiet and active play, both in and outdoors, throughout the day.
