About The Position

We are now accepting applications for Child, Youth & Family Counsellor based out of the South Okanagan Office. The successful applicant will provide intensive in-home intervention and support services for referred children & youth in care, their foster families, as well as out-of-care caregivers to reduce the risk of placement breakdown and develop the capacity of the caregivers to manage on an ongoing basis. Program services will mainly be provided on an outreach basis, serving the communities of the South Okanagan.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in child and youth care, social work, or related degree in human services field.
  • Minimum of 1-year related experience in working with youth and families.
  • A combination of equivalent education and related experience.
  • Experience and training working with children and youth in care, service coordination, parenting education and support, trauma informed care, and the ability to connect with children and youth.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal / written communication skills.
  • Be detail-oriented, organized, and efficient.
  • Be skilled at managing multiple concurrent projects, assignments and tasks requested from multiple sources.
  • Be capable of working independently, and frequently under pressure.
  • Need a valid BC Driver's License, regional insurance, and a reliable personal vehicle.
  • Must undergo a screening process, including a criminal record search.

Responsibilities

  • Provide intensive in-home intervention and support services for referred children & youth in care, their foster families, as well as out-of-care caregivers to reduce the risk of placement breakdown and develop the capacity of the caregivers to manage on an ongoing basis.
  • Apply a range of treatment modalities, which will vary based on the specific needs, and level / intensity of the service required.
  • Working together with Guardianship Social Workers and Resources to provide case management support.
  • Working directly with the program children & youth to support them to engage in other needed services, support life and pro-social skills development, support engagement in recreational and other positive activities, etc.
  • Providing support, mentoring, and education of caregivers to engage with the children & youth in their care, as well as providing support and crisis intervention in the caregiver’s home.
